The hazardous waste had been imported by the Nghe Phong Trading Company of Ben Luc District, Long An Province.

The company’s customs declaration described the multi-colored plastic as unused polyethylene.
Not so, according to the cops who were nearly overcome by the foul odor emanating from the obviously recycled plastic.

So far, the authorities have detected four cases of hazardous waste coming into the country through Ho Chi Minh City’s ports, with the volume in each case reaching into the hundreds of tons.
