Construction of a breakwater to prevent landslides along the Saigon River banks of Thanh Da area is expected to finish this year, Phan Cong Bang, deputy director of the HCMC Waterway Area, has said.
The project that began last December 2007 is around 77 percent finished, he said.
It was scheduled to be completed in September but some problems delayed it. The high tide forced a change in plans while work was suspended after workers found a hole in which bombs and mines were cached.
The project costs VND 16 billion (US$952,000) and involves construction of 478 meters of breakwater in Binh Thanh District.
