The Governor of Germany’s Hessen State, Roland Koch, reiterated the German government and Hessen’s commitment to do their utmost to carry out cooperation projects with Vietnam, especially the Vietnamese-German university project.
The Hessen Governor made the statement while meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Ho Chi Minh City on Sep. 10.
PM Dung said he was pleased at Vietnam-Germany cooperative ties in general and the cooperation with Hessen state in particular, noting that Vietnam-Hessen trade value reached US$135 million last year.
The PM thanked the Hessen State and the Governor’s support for the project to build the Vietnamese-German University in HCM City, saying that it has a special significance to the two countries’ friendly ties.
PM Dung hoped that German government agencies and businesses continue to assist the Vietnamese-German University in its early stage by providing scholarships for students and promoting university-business cooperation.
He also asked the Hessen State to keep up with the schedule in a program to train 1,020 Vietnamese students for doctorate degree by 2020, and thanked the state for grant of scholarships to Vietnamese students to take part for the first time in the “wine culture” exchange plan. He said he hoped the Hessen authorities would create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work in Hessen.
Governor Koch stressed that the German government and the Hessen State would continue providing assistance in finance and human resources to ensure effective operation of the Vietnamese-German University.
He thanked the Vietnamese government, relevant agencies and localities for creating favorable conditions for German businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam.
He said he hoped that German investors will receive support from Vietnam to take part in the country’s major infrastructure and transport projects.
The same day, Mr. Koch together with Andreas Storm, Parliamentary State-Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan attended the inaugural ceremony of the Vietnamese-German University, which is located in Thu Duc District, HCMC.
This is the first public university established on the basis of international cooperation between the Vietnamese and German governments, aiming for directing high-quality research and training of international standards.
