The Ministry of Transport on Sunday began construction to upgrade Highway 18, a section of roadway from Uong Bi town to Ha Long City in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The BOT (Build–Operate–Transfer) project will upgrade over 30 kilometers of the highway.
The highway will now be designed with four lanes that will take maximum speed of 80 kilometers an hour. Two new bridges will be built and 16 already existing bridges will be upgraded.
The project will cost a total VND1,320 billion (US$63 million), of which VND234 billion will come from the State budget, for site clearance purposes.
The project is expected to complete in 36 months and will help in boosting tourism in Ha Long City.
