The final round of the Viet Nam Innovation Day 2008 contest started in Ha Noi Monday and will finish Tuesday to raise public awareness of food safety and hygiene.
Over the past month, the organizing board has selected 36 out of the 231 entries for the final round, of which the 20 best ones will be awarded US$15,000 maximum each.
The topic of this year’s contest is food safety. The World Bank, the Viet Nam Food Administration, and Tuoi Tre newspaper are co-organizing the contest.
According to Nguyen Hung Long from the Food Administration, as food safety and hygiene is a very hot issue in Viet Nam, projects will be carried out across the country for the benefit of the general public. This year’s topic aims to encourage the community to introduce ideas to solve food safety problems.
The topic includes four sub-topics – raising public awareness of food safety; applicable measures to intensify food safety; new technologies to make produce safer and higher quality; and measures for better food safety management.
The sponsors in the contest are Australia’s Agency for International Development, New Zealand’s Agency for International Development, the Canadian Embassy, Danish Embassy, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
