Kuwait Eager to Cooperate With Viet Nam

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said that Kuwait wishes to establish long-term relations with Viet Nam in many areas, particularly investment, trade and labor.

The visiting PM made the statement during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Tan Dung, in Ha Noi on Wednesday, adding that Viet Nam was chosen for the first leg of his tour to Asia.

PM Dung stressed that the two sides should strengthen ties in the fields of transport, infrastructure, and labor and the two leaders expressed their determination to increase bilateral trade turnover to US$600-800 million by 2010.
After the talks, the two PMs witnessed the signing of a treaty on investment protection, a protocol for the formation of a joint committee for economic, scientific and technological cooperation and an agreement between the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and its Kuwaiti counterpart, the KCCI.

In his meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, the Kuwaiti PM announced plans to open an embassy in Ha Noi within the year.

He also said that Kuwait is ready to open its airspace to Vietnamese airlines, simplify the procedure for acquiring entry visas for Vietnamese citizens and employ Vietnamese laborers there.

Meeting with Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, he said Kuwai is considering a plan to invest some US$500 million in Viet Nam’s Nghi Son Refinery.
