Mekong delta needs $100.7 million to remove residents from land erosion

Deputy Director of the Natural Disaster Prevention Department Nguyen Truong Son said that Mekong delta governments should propose the cost of removing 11,366 households from land erosion which is estimated about VND2,348 billion ($100.7 million).

He made the statement at the yesterday meeting to review anti-flooding task in the region in 2018 and adopt new measures for the next time.
Additionally, he noted that local administrations in the region should have timely warning to inhabitants about floods and natural disaster as well as calculate crops in order to avoid flooding season and reinforce embankment.
Furthermore, they need to have hypothetic plan for huge floods.
According to relevant agencies, this year, flood water in the Mekong delta is forecast to rise high at warning level two.
The flooding has destroyed 1,850 hectare of fall-winter crops in An Giang, Dong Thap, Long an and Kien Giang provinces and inundated 5,480 houses and 2,500 hectare orchard and vegetables gardens as well as roads.
