National Program on Food Hygiene and Safety Approved

By 2010, 90 percent of producers and 80 percent of consumers should understand and practice regulations on food hygiene and safety appropriately under a five-year national program on food hygiene and safety.

Different kinds of vegetables are sold on markets every day, but not many people know whether or not they are safe to eat

According to the Ministry of Health, PM Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved the program that cost VND 1,300 billion for the 2006 -2010 period.

The objectives of the program are to raise the people’s awareness of the importance of compliance with regulations on food hygiene and safety.

Under the program, by 2010, the regulations will be propagandized to the public at large via mass media so that 90 percent of producers and 80 percent of consumers can understand and practice them in a proper way.

In addition, two modern testing laboratories will be built to find genetically modified foods and any excess amount of radioactive materials or antibiotics in food and foodstuffs.
