Officials Leave for Former Lao Leader’s Funeral

A high-ranking delegation of the Party and State left for Laos on Sept. 12 to attend the funeral of Nouhak Phoumsavane, former Politburo member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and former President of Laos.

The delegation is headed by Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC).

Other delegates include State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, Chairman of the CPVCC’s External Relations Commission Tran Van Hang, Deputy Chief of the CPVCC Office Hoang Thanh Khiet, Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Huy Quang.

On Sept. 12, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong paid tribute to Nouhak Phoumsavane at the Lao Embassy in Hanoi.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh sent wreaths to the embassy to the memory of the late Lao leader.

The same day, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee extended a message of condolences to the Lao Front for National Construction over the death of Nouhak Phoumsavane, who is also former President of the Lao People’s Supreme Assembly and former advisor of the Lao Party Central Committee.
