Oil spill on river near HCMC cleaned up

An oil spill from a collision between two boats on a tributary of the Dong Nai River in Ho Chi Minh City’s Can Gio district has been cleaned up, the HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment and HCMC border guard reported yesterday.

About 20 tons of oil was spilled after the collision on Wednesday, officials said.

Local fishers cleaned up eight tons and the remainder was collected by five vessels belonging to Dai Minh, a private company that specializes in cleaning up oil spills.

The remainder of the oil on the Gia Dinh tanker was pumped to other vessels and barges.
