The 23rd Green Summer Campaign was officially launched by Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union on Sunday with attendance of more than 100, 000 volunteers from the universities, and colleges in the city and more than 20 young people from Malaysia.

Attending in the launching ceremony were the first Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union and Vietnam Students Association Chairman Le Quoc Phong, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam and representative leaders of departments and agencies.

Under theme of “Youths join hands in building new-style rural areas and civilized urban areas”, the young people will contribute two million of working days to participate in meaningful activities like environment protection, traffic safety and preventing crimes and other voluntary activities.
Accordingly, this year’s Green Summer Campaign takes place not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also in the southeastern, west southern, Central Highlands and South Central provinces, Tho Chu Island of Kien Giang province and Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and HCMC People’s Council Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam praised volunteers, hoping that the youths would continue to prove their responsibility and tasks into meaningful works.
On the same day, more than 500 youths joined a launching ceremony of the 2016 Green Summer Campaign in district 12, HCMC.

As schedule, 80 young people will present in Attapeu province and Champasak province of Laos to join voluntary activities after the launching ceremony.
The activities aim to tie friendship relations between Vietnam- Lao students
On July 10- 21, the Red Journey will focus on voluntary activities in Attapeu province such as offering free medicine and treatment for 2, 000 residents, training agricultural technology transfer for 400 farmers and guiding the safe use of power for 400 families, presenting gifts for advantaged families and a friendship house.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Green Summer Campaign will focus on activities in Champasak province such as offering a friendship house, providing free medicine and treatment for 1, 600 poor patients, presenting 10 scholarships and 2, 000 notebooks for poor pupils.
