Party chief encourages development during visit to Ha Nam Province

HA NAM (VNS) — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the northern province of Ha Nam on Saturday to inspect socio-economic development, new-style rural buildings and Party work.

Trong said Ha Nam should work hard to fulfill set targets as it remained a poor province with low per-capital income.

He added that as a southern gateway to the capital, the province needed to develop agriculture and the processing industry while focusing all resources on developing human resources.

Trong asked Ha Nam to enhance connections with other regions in the country to help development.

He also urged local authorities to prepare for Party congresses at all levels before the 12th National Party Congress in early 2016.

The province should continue to create a strong and united apparatus that was resilient to negative phenomena, particularly corruption, the Party chief said.

According to local authorities, Ha Nam has enjoyed an annual GDP growth rate of 13 per cent in the past seven years.

The proportion of industry and construction in the province has risen to 53 per cent and that of agro-forestry-fisheries has dropped to 15.6 per cent, which they said was a step in the right direction.

The living standards of locals had greatly improved, while the new rural building programme has made remarkable developments. Three communes had fulfilled all targets and 11 had met 15 criteria.

Earlier, the Party leader visited Binh Luc district's Vu Ban commune, where 85.5 per cent of population live on agriculture, and the Number 1 Ha Nam-Tan Hiep Phat Co. Ltd in the Kien Khe 1 Industrial Complex in Thanh Liem district.
