General Secretary Manh, on behalf of leaders of the Party, State and Fatherland Front, extended Tet greetings to all compatriots and soldiers at a get-together on February 14 on the occasion of the upcoming traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).

The get-together was also attended by former General Secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu; State President Nguyen Minh Triet; former State President Tran Duc Luong; NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong; former NA Chairman Nguyen Van An; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; President of the Fatherland Front Central Committee Pham The Duyet; and others.
The Party chief said with all-out efforts in 2006, the entire Party, people and army overcame numerous difficulties and challenges to obtain great achievements, which have created a new position and strength for the development of the country.
He stressed that in 2007, the country is likely to face various opportunities as well as challenges, requiring the whole country to be more active and determined to fulfill the set targets of socio-economic development for the year.
General Secretary Manh called on the entire Party, people, army and overseas Vietnamese to join efforts to lift the country out of the underdeveloped status as soon as possible, and turn Vietnam into an industrial nation by 2020.
Earlier in the day, leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and Fatherland Front paid floral tributes to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi.
They also laid wreaths at the Monument of Fallen Combatants before gathering at a Tet wishing function at the Presidential Palace.
