People run for traffic victims

Though Hanoi was shivering with cold, many locals still took part in a run in Hoan Kiem Lake for traffic safety yesterday in response to the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Khuat Viet Hung, vice chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee , also ran in the event.
Participants had to run a distance of 6,827 meter; generally most people finished the run.
The National Traffic Safety Committee said that in ten first months, nearly 7,000 people had been killed in traffic accidents and approximately 12,000 others suffered lifetime injuries. Averagely, one day has more than 20 people are killed in accidents and nearly 40 others are injured. The causes of accident are mostly violations such as wrong lanes, driving on the opposite direction , over-speeding, alcohol drivers…
The committee and People’s Committee in the Highlands province of Gia Lai yesterday observed a few minutes of mourning for the traffic victims. This ceremony was live broadcast on VTV1 chanel from *PM to 9PM.
There days ago on November 17, Mr. Hung visited injured victims of traffic accident in Hanoi-based Viet Duc ( Vietnam – German ) hospital who are in difficulties.
Activities to remember traffic accident victims and visiting to victims, relatives are taking place in many localities nationwide.
