PM Calls For Coordinated Fight Against Drugs

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ordered several ministries to work together to crack down on drugs.

He said the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs should promote detoxification at drug users’ houses, communities, and rehabilitation centers, watch reformed addicts since they are prone to recidivism, and help them reintegrate into society.

The Ministry of Police should crack down on the distribution of drugs, the Ministry of National Defense should stop drug smuggling, the Ministry of Health should prevent the abuse of prescription drugs, and the Ministry of Education and Training should add the evils of drug using up drugs into the cirriculum, Mr. Dung said.

He also instructed provincial and municipal leaders to step up anti-drug campaigns and to take personal responsibility for the fight against drugs.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee must plan to provide vocational training to rehabilitated addicts so that they can get jobs, he said. The city is expected to draft the plans and submit them to the PM before December 15.
