PM wants improved traffic order in big cities

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently released a document asking related ministries and agencies to implement measures for traffic orders in big cities.

The Prime Minister asks authorities in the country’s five biggest cities to invest more for infrastructure and public transportation to alleviate traffic.  These cities include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong in the North, Da Nang in the Central, and Can Tho in Mekong delta.

People’s Committee members in the cities are also asked to encourage use of public transportation and adopt transportation models that include citizen contribution.

The Ministry of Transport is asked to implement a free bicycle project in extremely congested areas of the cities.

Prime Minister Dung also asks the Ministry of Finance to allocate resources for development of public transportation and fix toll and parking fees.
