Dung said he hoped that the talks, which end on Friday, would be productive so that the agreement could be completed by October.

He emphasised that the early completion of the FTA would bring benefits for both sides.

In addition, the PM suggested the EU quickly recognise Viet Nam as a full market economy.

De Gucht said he was delighted with the outcomes of the past FTA talks and stated that the EU was working closely with Viet Nam to finish negotiations.

The EU is Viet Nam's second largest trade partner and biggest export market.

In November last year, two-way trade hit US$30 billion, 17.35 per cent higher than the figure for 2012. Viet Nam's key export lines include footwear, garments, coffee, timber products and seafood.

EU businesses have largely been involved in the manufacturing, construction and services sectors in Viet Nam.
