State President Nguyen Minh Triet on Sept. 17 praised mid-land Phu Tho province for its economic achievements in the first eight months of this year.
Working with the local authorities during his two-day visit to the mid-land province on Sept. 16-17, President Triet appreciated the province’s year-on-year growth rates of 10.9 percent in GDP, 13 percent in industrial production and service value, and its export turnover of US$200 million , which ranks 19th of its kind in the country.
In addition, Phu Tho was one of three northern mountainous and mid-land provinces exceeding the VND1 trillion benchmark in State budget contribution remittance in 2007.
The State leader said the achievements were impressive as the province suffered difficulties caused by not only the global economic downturn but also by the changeable weather and floods.
He urged the province to concentrate on dealing with the natural disasters’ aftermaths, accelerating the implementation of infrastructure projects and carrying out national target programmes and projects to develop production and stabilise people’s life, particularly those in poor, ethnic minority and disaster-prone areas.
He advised the province to fully tap its potentials and strengths in husbandry, cultivation and aquaculture. Phu Tho has the largest water acreage for aquaculture, over 9,000 ha, among 18 northern mountainous and mid-land provinces.
He also asked the province to improve its investment environment, and prepare infrastructure and human resources to welcome more investment.
