President Thanks Veterans, War Invalids, Martyrs’ Families

On the 59th anniversary of Martyrs, War Invalids' Day, State President Nguyen Minh Triet sent the following letter to veterans, war invalids and martyrs’ families:

On behalf of the State and Party, I would like to give my best regards to the Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids, veterans, martyrs’ families and people who offered services to the country.

The struggle for national liberation and reunification led by the Viet Nam Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh with the slogans “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” and “We’d rather sacrifice it all to gain independence and freedom than being enslaved” ended with our glorious victory won by the people’s tremendous hardship.

Millions of people died in prisons and on battlefields or lost parts of their bodies. The Vietnamese people permanently bear in mind their gratitude for great contributions of heroic mothers, heroes, martyrs and families and always care of them.

In the renovation period (Doi Moi), war invalids, veterans and martyrs’ families have made all-out efforts to study and work despites sickness and losses, and they have made some considerable achievements that contribute to the social development, becoming exemplary citizens.

I highly appreciate such efforts made by these honorable people, and wish that they will continue to bring into play the nation’s revolutionary traditions and achieve much more.

On this occasion, I hope the municipal Party committees, Viet Nam Fatherland Front, mass organizations and the whole people will further provide material and moral support to heroic mothers, war invalids, veterans and martyrs’ families, as a symbol of national solidarity in the new era.
