President Nguyen Minh Triet (R, 3rd) talks with the Viet Nam Farmers Association's Central Committee members at the meeting

Addressing a meeting of the Viet Nam Farmers Association’s Central Committee in the capital yesterday, President Triet said: “In the past struggle for national liberation, farmers were key forces, absolutely loyal to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Now, they continue to play an important role in the cause of national development."
“Many good agricultural products and equipment are specific results of farmers’ ingenuity,” he added.
He also asked association chapters at all levels to help the farmers better understand new development circumstances and requirements.
“The Farmers Association’s Central Committee should come up with new proposals to help farmers produce what the market needs, not what they already have,” Mr. Triet said.
“We must raise farmers’ awareness of law and policy and facilitate them in solving problems.”
