Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a VND24 trillion (US$1.2 billion) project for the development of a telecom communication system in rural areas by 2020.
100% of all communes will have the telecom and information service in such places as the village post office, cultural centres and community information centres.
The number of Internet subscribers in rural areas is expected to increase by 30-40 percent by 2020.
All cities and provinces will have their own private video conferencing network and almost all citizens and enterprises will have access to online networking facilities.
The project aims to improve communication between urban and rural areas.
