Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visited the Vietnam National University in Hanoi on March 19, and conferred with teachers, scientists, officials and students.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by officials of ministries and various departments. The delegation offered comments, suggestions and recommendations, such as for VNU to create pilot projects for attracting more talented teachers and scientists. PM Dung stressed that VNU needs to improve the quality of training, teaching staff, and strengthen applied research.
On this occasion, PM Dung decided to appoint Mr. Phung Xuan Nha, alternate member of the Party Central Committee as Director of VNU.
The new director pointed out that VNU has set development goals till 2020 and aims to be among the top 100 universities in Asia with 60,000 students, 3,000 lecturers, and a host of doctors, professors and associate professors.
In his talks with officials, educators, scientists, staff, students of VNU, PM Dung hoped that VNU would further develop as a research oriented university, provide training in human resources in high levels of scientific research, and switch to high technology to meet global demand.
