Reduction of child labour project benefits 5,000 children

A project on the reduction of child labour is expected to start in January 2009, benefiting 5,000 children in target localities, according to the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare.

Statistics showed that the country has nearly 1.8 million child workers, accounting for eight percent of children at the age of 6-17. The rate is high in rural and mountainous areas, where children have to work to support their family from an early age.

The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare will join hands with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation to conduct the 2.5 million EUR project in three years
