Relief Money Floods to Bridge Collapse Victims

A massive amount of relief money for the Can Tho Bridge collapse victims is flooding to Vinh Long province and thus local officials must guarantee that it will all be given to the families in need, said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loan Tu, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long Province Fatherland Front Committee.

Mr. Tu also added that the relief money will not be handed directly to the victims’ families. Instead, each of them will receive a monthly interest from the relief money put in their bank accounts.

Also, the offer of relief money will be carried out in accordance with the laws. Wives and children of the victims are those eligible to receive the relief money. Only in exceptional cases will the money be given to the victims’ parents or siblings.

The expenses of the relief team, including transportation fees, food, and other necessities, will be covered by the national budget.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City Fatherland Front Committee also expressed his hope to see the donation money used wisely by the victims’ families as a way to express their gratitude to the donors.

A tremendous amount of relief money has also poured into My Hoa Commune, Vinh Long Province, the place suffering the heaviest toll with 33 people dead and 37 injured. Therefore, Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Duoc, encouraged the victims’ families to cooperate with local banks and officials in managing the donation money.

Families of those who died or were severely injured in the collapse will be given VND100 million each, those injured will receive from VND5 million to VND80 million depending on the seriousness of their injuries.

The Japanese contractors KTN also gave VND8 billion to the children of bridge collapse victims yesterday.
