Seven rescued from overturned boats in Phu Yen Province

Seven people were rescued on Friday when three boats overturned in the central province of Phu Yen, where continual heavy rainfall flooded many low-lying areas.

The three boats overturned in the gushing floodwaters in Hoa Xuan Dong Commune of Dong Hoa District on Friday. Fortunately, rescue teams from Hiep Dong village reached in time to save the seven lives from drowning, with four being students.

According to the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention in Dong Hoa District, floodwaters from the Ban Thach River have marooned parts of Hoa Xuan Dong and Hoa Tam Communes. Travel has become very difficult in the district with over 100 nursery and primary students staying at home.

16-year-old Vo Kim Thanh drowned after he and his friend fell into the river from a motorcycle while crossing the Lo Gom Bridge in Tuy An District. Thanh’s friend was saved by local residents.
