They were speaking at a year-end reception organized by the Editorial Board of Sai Gon Giai Phong in Hanoi to extend the employees’ gratitude to leaders of the Party, the Government, organizations and agencies as well as collaborators and readers throughout the country for their cooperation, support and assistance.

Prominent among those attending the meeting were: Member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan, and other senior party and government officials.

Also in attendance were leaders of central branches, departments, agencies and organizations, editors in chief of other newspapers and National Assembly delegates from HCM city.

Addressing the reception, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said: “I lived and worked in Ho Chi Minh City between 1997 and 2006 and was a regular reader of the newspaper. I noticed the ceaseless renovation both in content and appearance of the newspaper during the time.”

Nhan added that the newspaper has been welcomed not only by city residents but also by people throughout the country because of its trustworthiness. What has been published by the newspaper is always reliable, he said.

Dang Ngoc Tung of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor lauded the newspaper for having successfully conveyed necessary guidelines and policies of the Party and Government to the public in a timely manner and hoped the newspaper will reap in more successes in the future.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Information, Do Quy Doan, expected that SGGP would remain its top position in the local party newspaper system despite the fierce competition at present, serving as an excellent forum of the Party and the Government and at the same time, as the voice of HCMC residents and the people of the nation as a whole.

On behalf of SGGP, editor-in-chief Tran The Tuyen said that the annual reception was a practice through which the newspaper staff expressed their heartfelt thanks to the leaders of Party, the Government, agencies and organizations, colleagues and readers nationwide for their valuable cooperation, support and assistance and at the same time, their constructive opinions for the further development of the newspaper.

Besides the official daily newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong has now nearly ten other products including newspapers specializing in hot news, banking, finance and sports, a magazine and two online editions.

The newspaper operates on the basis of the orientation, effective policies and guidelines set for an official newspaper of the HCMC Communist Party.

Tuyen added that in an effort to maintain prestige of the newspaper and improve its quality, staff members have tried their best to make it one of the most reliable newspapers in the country. Aside from fulfilling its tasks as an information and propaganda agency, the newspaper also carries out charity work to help boost education and socio-economic development among disadvantaged sections of the society, he said.
