Shortage of electricity leads to power outages

Slow construction progress and unstable power sources has resulted in an electric shortfall of about 30-40 percent, according to Electricity of Viet Nam.

In the first seven months of the year, around 43 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was produced, an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of this total, 38 billion kilowatt-hours were sold. Although those in charge of providing electricity promised to lessen the amount and duration of electric outages, the hot weather tends to increase the demand for electricity.

The electric company is asking residents to save power so that power outages can be avoided.
