State President meets Agent Orange victims

Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang yesterday received Agent Orange and people working social works who partook in the third national congress For Agent Orange/ Dioxin.

At the meeting, President Quang said that it is urgent to surmount consequence of the fatal chemical sprayed by the US troop in the war. It is also the responsibility of the whole society adding that all people and unions must help Agent Orange victims overcome difficulties

Mr. Quang requested agencies, sectors and local authorities to closely work with the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) to continuously struggle for justice for the Vietnamese victims as well  as increase information of chemical disasters to people.

President Quang expected VAVA to actively help AO victims especially those in distant and remote districts or disadvantaged areas. The Association should help them access and enjoy benefits. He also called for financial aid from international organizations and people in the world to help the Vietnamese victims and prevent chemical war in the future.

On the occasion, President Quang donated VND100 million (US$ 4,484) to the fund for Agent Orange/ Dioxin victims.

The Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) said that more than 4.8 million people in Vietnam have been exposed to the herbicide and over 3 million of them have been suffering from deadly diseases.
