Thousands of Overseas Vietnamese Granted Visa Exemptions

Oversea Vietnamese receive visa exemption at the Immigration Department in HCM City.

Over 3,000 Vietnamese expatriates have been exempted from the exit/entry visa certification requirement, said a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in a press conference in Ha Noi on Thursday.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Phu Binh revealed that one month after the implementation of the decision on granting visa exemptions to overseas Vietnamese began on September 01, more than 200,000 Vietnamese people living abroad have accessed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website on visa exemptions.

Also according to Mr. Binh most Vietnamese expatriates appreciate the new policy that demonstrates the Party’s and Government’s dedication to Vietnamese people living in foreign countries.

Mr. Binh added that in an effort to facilitate housing purchases in the country by overseas Vietnamese, PM Nguyen Tan Dung has urged the Ministry of Construction to work with the Ministries of Justice, Police, and Foreign Affairs to complete a draft of the Decree on Housing for Vietnamese expatriates by October 2007.
