Three Americans, Four Vietnamese Face Terrorism Charges

Three Vietnamese-born US citizens and four Vietnamese nationals will be prosecuted for plotting acts of terrorism against Viet Nam and will stand trial at the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court this month, officials said on Thursday.

The US citizens, who hold dual nationality, are Nguyen Thuong Cuc, 58, who goes by the name Foshee Thuong Nguyen in America; Huynh Bich Lien, 51; and Le Van Binh, 31.
The four Vietnamese are Cao Tri, 35; Tran Dat Phuong, 65; Ho Van Giau, 53; and Ho Van Hien, 36.

The seven are alleged to have links with a US-based group called “Government of Free Vietnam”, headed by Vietnamese-born US citizen Nguyen Huu Chanh, for whom Viet Nam’s Ministry of Public Security has issued an arrest warrant.

According to Vietnamese police, Nguyen Huu Chanh was plotting to bomb the Vietnamese embassy in Thailand and public places in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces.

The other allegation is that Chanh and his seven fellow suspects were plotting to use radio broadcasts to incite unrest in the Mekong Delta.
