A tornado at sea off Rach Gia town in the southern province of Kien Giang sent town residents and passengers aboard a hydrofoil into a panic on March 8.
The tornado, a storm with rotating winds reaching speeds of almost 500 kilometers, was observed at 2.30 PM and lasted 15 minutes.
But it caused no damage since there were no vessels passing through the point at the time.
Local residents said offshore tornados only occur during the rainy season.
