Traffic police cracks down DUI drivers

Police in big cities said that they have fined nearly 15,000 DUI drivers after they simultaneously launched campaigns to handle violations including DUI (driving under the influence) violation in one-month long.

The Road Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said that during one-month campaign (from July 15 to August 14), police officers handled 314,917 violations, collecting nearly VND160 billion ($6,891,888) fine as well as revoking 47,649 driving licenses and seizing 21,076 vehicles.
Especially, police handled 14,756 DUI drivers and 160 driving while intoxicated (DWI) drivers.
Police in the southern province of Tay Ninh imposed fine on 1,705 people while their peers in Ho Chi Minh City, the northern province of Phu Tho, the Highland province of Dak Lak and the Mekong delta province of Be nTre issued fines on 1,589 drivers; 915 drivers, 594 drivers and 436 drivers respectively.
