US delivers six coastal patrol boats to Vietnam Coast Guard

The U.S. transferred six coastal patrol boats to the Vietnam Coast Guard, Region II on the southern Phu Quoc Island on March 29, according to a U.S. Embassy.

The handover ceremony coincided with U.S. Vice Admiral and Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Fred M. Midgette's first visit to Vietnam.
Six Metal Shark patrol boats can reach speeds of up to 50 knots (93 km per hour).
According to a deal worth US$20 million, boats are part of the delivery of a training center, a maintenance workshop, a boat lift.
The event aims to enhance the cooperative relationship between the United States and Vietnam.
