U.S. to change nonimmigrant visa application form

As of April 16, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will require all nonimmigrant visa applicants to complete the web-based DS-160 nonimmigrant visa electronic application in order to apply for a visa, the embassy announced Wednesday.

The DS-160 application will replace the DS-156 application and the supplementary DS-157 and DS-158 application forms that are required of certain visa applicants, the American Embassy said.

It added that more than 70 U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide have switched to the DS-160 form.  As of April 16, the old DS-156 will no longer be available for use online. Any DS-156 forms created prior to that date will still be accepted after April 16.

Applicants will continue to complete visa application forms online, as they did previously with the electronic visa application form. With the new form, the applicant will be required to upload a visa photograph, and submit the form via the Internet. The applicant will print just one confirmation page upon completion of the DS-160, the statement said.
