Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Dung

Viet Nam has decided to run for non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-2009 term, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Dung on January 6.

In answer to reporters, he said, “As a proactive member of the international community, Viet Nam has been actively participating in and making many contributions to UN activities. Viet Nam will join hand in sharing UN responsibilities in keeping international peace and security.”

“To make further contributions to UN common activities, Viet Nam has decided to run for non-permanent membership of the Security Council for the 2008-2009 term and is preparing so that when sufficient conditions warrant, Viet Nam will participate in UN peacekeeping operations.”
