Vietnam Air attendant held in Australia for carrying ‘addictive’ substance

Australian police have detained Vietnam Airlines flight attendant Phan Thanh Tung for carrying three bottles of liquor laced with an “addiction-causing substance,” the carrier reported August 19.

On August 15 he was stopped by Sydney customs officers when he arrived aboard VN 783 from Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Airlines has asked its office in Australia to assist the Australian authorities in the case.

It is also working with the Vietnamese embassy and consulate in Australia to ensure Mr.Tung’s rights and interests are protected.

He has been suspended from work pending the investigation.

Vietnam Airlines said it would tighten control over flight attendants to prevent wrongdoings and improve its image.
