The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) on November 14 held a ceremony to honor the contribution of 109 foreign non-governmental-organizations for poverty reduction and development in the country.
The NGOs were awarded for their positive contributions to poverty reduction and socio-economic development in Việt Nam.
The ceremony held in Hanoi was attended by Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, leaders of ministers and related sectors and representatives of foreign NGOs.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of VUFO Vu Xuan Hong highly appraised contributions of NGOs to poverty reduction, hunger eradication and development in the country.
In the past ten years, NGOs have provided Vietnam with nearly US$1.7 billion in non-refundable aid, focusing on economic development, poverty reduction and overcoming the consequences of the American bombing.
In addition, representatives from 61 NGOs have committed to provide US$151 million to help Vietnam reduce poverty by 2011.
