Vietnam kicks off VAT refund scheme for foreign visitors

The Value Added Tax (VAT) refund scheme for foreign visitors will officially be implemented from today, July 1, at the Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

VAT refund counters for foreign visitors have been installed at both the above airports and foreign visitors can avail of this promotional scheme before departing from Vietnam.

Foreign visitors will receive the VAT refund amount from these counters that are installed near departure areas in the airports.

Any visitor wanting a VAT refund must present a bill and fill a tax refund form valid for 30 days before date of departure. Goods purchased must have a total value of at least VND2 million (US$95) and purchased in the same shop on the same day. 

The VAT refund scheme will be implemented from July 7, 2012 until June 30, 2014.
