Vietnam launches Clean up the World campaign

In response to the campaign Clean Up the World, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment decided to choose this year campaign’s theme “Acting for an environment without garbage".

The campaign kicked off on September 21 in Vietnam. A range of activities were held during the day, including festivals of recycle waste products, collecting waste, dredging canals and rivers.

The campaign will take place in the northern province of Thai Nguyen with more activities including ceremonies, planting trees, collecting rubbish and tours of environmentally friendly models.

The Department of Environment Protection in Ho Chi Minh City said that in respond to the campaign, the city authority has chosen district 12 to carry out activities as district 12 is a “hot spot” for environment pollution.

Visitors to the event received environmentally friendly bags in order to encourage residents to sue these special bags. The organizer and communist youth union will collect waste from canal Sau Suu.

Young men taking part in the campaign will encourage residents in the district not to leave litter in streets and not throw garbage to the rivers.

Bui Cach Tuyen, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said that the campaign Clean up the World kicked off since 1993 and became one of annual campaign in the world. In 2014, 130 nations including the Southeast Asian countries have joined the campaign.

To prepare for the campaign , the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has asked municipal and provincial authorities to strengthen information to raise people’s awareness of environment as well as accuse of those cause pollution.
