Vietnamese jet fighter hero Nguyen Van Bay dies at 84

Vietnamese jet fighter ace Nguyen Van Bay died at the age of 84 at the 175 Military Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday, the hospital confirmed.

Colonel Nguyen Van Bay, one of military aviator credited with shooting down several enemy aircraft during aerial combat, piloted a MiG-17F to shoot down seven US aircraft while assigned to the 923rd Fighter Regiment during the US war in Vietnam.
In 1989, he retired and later returned his homeland in the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap.
His death is a sad news for residents in his neighbors in village No.4 in Lai Vung Town where he resided around 30 years.
His neighbors love him because he often helped difficult people around. Thanks to his appealing for social contribution, the path into the village was built.
