VN & India promote further diplomatic ties

At the meeting, he shared that the relationship between Vietnam and India has blossomed under the solid foundation established by Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh since it was established over 2,000 years ago. 

The Indian author also shared that he ever had an opportunity to see and listen to the Vietnamese President’s speech on the occasion of his visit to Calcuta in 1958. When President Ho Chi Minh visited Calcuta to meet people of all classes; the President even shaked hand with gardeners which was highly appreciate by Calcuta press in particular and India press in general.
For the commercial ties, India is the tenth largest trade partner of Vietnam currently. Both sides have strengthened military and economy relationship. In order to promote further relationship, Vietnam and India need to boost diplomatic ties of the countries’ people and tourism cooperation; open direct flights between big cities of the two nations, added the 85 year old author.

He also shared his most memories in his recent visit to Vietnam in 1992 as he had meetings with Former Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Van Dong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Vice President of State Nguyen Thi Binh and other senior leaders of Vietnam. 

Especially, he witnessed five to six students using one book in a secondary school in Ha Noi as at that time Vietnam was very poor. He was impressive with the sharing of Vietnamese students in their difficult studying condition. Besides, he was impressed that Vietnamese women were highly respected among the Southeast Asian countries and India. 

Geetesh Sharma has had great contributions for the two countries’ relationship and he wrote many books about President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam.
