Australia and Germany have pledged US$63 million to support Vietnam in protecting its coastal ecosystem in view of the threat of global warming.
A conference on “climate change, conservation and development: practical solutions for Kien Giang Province” was held on June 3 in Rach Gia City to announce the program on Climate Change in Coastal Ecosystems (CCCEP).
The CCCEP will be implemented during a five-year period from 2011 to 2016, focused on supporting and implementing practical solutions to the environmental hazards threatening the coastal ecosystem.
The governments of Australia with USD 24 million and Germany with USD 39 million fund the joint initiative.
The Australian fund will focus on the three provinces of Kien Giang, An Giang and Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta and the German funds will support activities in the Soc Trang and Bac Lieu provinces.
