Construction of a bell tower started at Dong Loc road junction's monument, central Ha Tinh province on July 15 in commemoration of soldiers who fell down at the site during the war for national independence and reunification.
Dong Loc used to be a main junction on the supply line from the north to the south during the war and so it was subjected to heavy bombardments by the US air force. It went down in history after 10 female volunteers aged from 17-20 who were assigned to maintain the road were killed in an air attack of the road on July 24, 1968.
At the ground breaking ceremony, representatives of Lao Dong (Labour) and Dau tu (Investment) newspapers presented gifts to family members of the 10 young volunteers and their former army comrades.
Agencies, organisations and individuals nationwide donated VND1.5 billion for the construction of the bell tower.
