Central region urgently deals with natural disaster, controls disease outbreaks

According to the latest warning from the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, newly- formed low pressure zone in the East Sea currently has a tendency to rapidly intensify into new tropical depression and a storm respectively heading to the mainland of the Central region on November 8-9.

In addition, a range of tropical convergence connecting with the tropical low pressure system in the middle of the East Sea has been triggering rainy spells in the Central region. 

From November 4, the provinces and cities from Thua Thien- Hue to Binh Thuan experienced medium- heavy downpours.

The rainy weather is expected to continue in the mid- Central and southern part of the Central regions until this weekend. 

The Irrigation General Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urgently sent cables to directors of the Argiculture and Rural Development of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien- Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces to guide necessary preparedness and measures dealing with the unexpected weather condition.

The department also asked directors of Irrigation Work Investment and Construction Management Board No 5, No 6 to store total amount of water storage in reservoirs, thereby updating the list of essential works, the full- of- reservoir, ensuring safety for irrigation works and minimizing damage in agricultural production due to an impact of excessive rainfall. 

Currently, some localities have braced for not only weather impact but also risk of large-scale infectious disease outbreaks such as viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF).

Statistics showed that there had been more than 1,100 dengue cases in Binh Dinh, accounting for 20.8 percent of the whole province. Of which, around 550 dengue cases have been reported in city of Quy Nhon.
