The northern region has been cold and rainy since this morning after a cold front slammed in and reduced temperatures in Sa Pa to 12-13 degrees Celsius and 21-22 degrees in Hanoi.

The mercury fell to 13 degrees in Mau Son, Lang Son province; 14.5 degrees in Sin Ho, Lai Chau; 15.8 degrees in Moc Chau, Son La and 17 degrees in Bac Me, Ha Giang.
The cold front has brought medium to heavy rain in the northern region and some places in the central region, according to National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.
Precipitation was measured at 10-25mm, reaching 77mm in Tuyen Quang province, 111mm in Minh Dai, Phu Tho and 88mm in Hiep Hoa, Bac Giang this morning.
The cold spell signals coming winter. This year experts forecast that the winter will come sooner than previous years and it will be colder.
The cold spell will continue spreading to the central region today. Provinces from Nghe An to Binh Dinh will see medium to heavy rainfall from October 10-13.
