Downpours cause flood chaos in Northern mountainous region

The hydro-meteorology forecast station of Lao Cai province reported that the heavy rainfall started falling in the Northern mountainous province on the large scale on Saturday early morning, triggering flash flooding on the local riverbanks.

Over 100 mm downpour caused serious flooding in many routes of San Sa Ho and Ta Van communes. Specially, a huge torrential flood hit Red River overflowing Lao Cai city with a floodwater level of 79.05 meters.

This is the biggest flood ever recorded on the Red River since the beginning of this year’s rainy season. 

Due to the circulation of typhoon Podul, there were medium- heavy rains, flooding and landslide in places for Hoa Binh province.

Traffic congestion occurred in several hours due to unstoppable heavy downpours triggering 1,000-meter cubic soil and rock downslope.

According to the latest weather news from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control, Search and Rescue of Thai Nguyen province, two dead were due to lightning. 

Warnings of excessive downpour, flash flooding and landslide are in low-lying areas for Dinh Hoa, Dai Tu and Vo Nhai districts on the weekend.

The Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control, Search and Rescue of Dak Nong province said that the rescue forces have been on site to deal with the incident of the village-2 irrigation dam at commune of Truong Xuan in Dak Song district. 

According to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Que Phong District in Nghe An province Le Van Giap, the recue forces picked up four people out of flooding area as they were going fishing.
