Floodwaters surging in central, northern regions

The northern and central regions experienced heavy downpours on Friday afternoon, posing a threat of flash floods and landslides in Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh provinces, where the rainfall measured 160-190mm, reported the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.

Low lying and riverside areas have been vulnerable to flooding in Ninh Binh, Ha Nam and Vinh Phuc.

Prolonged heavy rains for the last couple of days have also raised flood levels on Buoi and Ma Rivers in Thanh Hoa and Ca River in Nghe An province.

Friday was the second consecutive day that hours-long rains pelted Hanoi, where tens of thousands of people had to wade across submerged streets.

The weather will be sunny with scattered showers in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern region at the weekend, temperatures will swing from 25-33 degrees Celsius.
