Tropical storm Hagupit will affect some provinces in the North, especially Quang Ninh province Wednesday night, according to a forecast by the National Center for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.
Hagupit entered the East Sea after passing the Philippine island of Luzon Monday. The storm, at latitude 20.3 degrees North, longitude 116.8 degrees East, was about 70-km east-southeast of Tungsha, China at 10 a.m Tuesday morning.
It has sustained winds of 75 – 88 km/h.
Government officials had an urgent meeting to determine how to cope with the storm Monday night.
There were 213 ships and 1,900 fishermen on the area around the Paracel Islands and a total of 4,000 ships and 30,000 fishermen were at sea.
No damage has been reported.
