Tropical depression dumps more rain in mid central region

A tropical depression is continuing to bring in more medium to heavy rainfall in the mid central region and forecast to continue through Wednesday, causing severe flooding and vast amounts of damage.

By 7am on Wednesday, the depression was positioned 17.3 degrees north latitude and 111.2 degrees east longitude, about 340 kilometers east northeast of the Thua Thien-Hue-Da Nang coastline.

Wind gales near the center reached level 6 to move at 39-49 kilometers an hour.

Within the next 24 hours, it is forecast to move east and northeastwards at 10-15 kilometers an hour and may gradually weaken into a low pressure zone.

24 people were reported dead or missing in the central provinces of Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen on Tuesday as a result of severe flooding. Of all the affected provinces, Quang Nam was the worst hit with 17 reported deaths and one missing.
