HCMC to Save Energy with Solar Water Heater Systems

Solar water heater system (circled) is installed.

Ho Chi Minh City can save annually 5.8 to 8.2 million kW of electricity if the city replaces 100,000 electricity water heaters with solar ones, said an expert in energy industry.

Ho Chi Minh City’s location (at the northern latitude 10.8) provides the city a sunny condition lasting 8 hours a day, which is convenient for using solar-power heaters.

With this advantage, the application of solar-power water heater in Ho Chi Minh City is an ideal solution to save other energy sources and to preserve the environment.

According to a survey made by the Energy Efficiency Center of Ho Chi Minh City, the city can save annually 5.8 to 8.2 million KW in capacity if 100,000 electricity water heaters in Ho Chi Minh City are replaced with solar-power ones.

Truong Dinh Quy, Deputy Director of Phong Lan Restaurant said that he can save a lot of time and money after his restaurant installed 10 solar water heater systems two years ago.

"They still work well now and we don’t have to pay the electricity bill for the heater," he added.

However, it is because of the ineffective campaign for new alternative energy sources such as wind or solar power and the high price of heaters, many households hesitate to replace electricity with these new sources, said the survey.

Currently, some models of solar-power water heater with 180-250 liters tank capacity assembled in Viet Nam are introduced to the domestic market.

The solar water heater system supplied by Quan Quan Trading, Service, Manufacturing Ltd. Company (http://www.quanquan.com/contact.html)
costs VND3.5 to 5 million.
